Manchester Thunder train Rocky-style ahead of Wasps clash

The countdown is on to the North West’s biggest netball event of the year.

On Saturday, June 2 Manchester Thunder will take on reigning Superleague champions Wasps at the Manchester Arena.

With less than two weeks to go before Netball Manchester Live 2018, Thunder have filmed and produced a promotional video inspired by the Rocky films.

Channelling their inner fighting spirit, Thunder players were put through their paces in the ring by World Champion boxer Terry Flanagan and Manchester fighter Stacey Copeland.

Every champion was once a contender who refused to give up – Rocky Bilboa

The film stars the whole Superleague squad in locations across Greater Manchester, as they prepare physically and mentally for the big match.

Filmed to the beat of the famous Rocky theme tune, see how netball and boxing collide as Thunder stride towards their own battle against Wasps on the city’s biggest stage.

With both sides vying for a top four play-off place and Thunder looking to avenge their away defeat to the Coventry outfit earlier in the season, the match is set to be a contest of Rocky Balboa v Apollo Creed proportions. Thunder managing director Debbie Hallas said: “Rocky is one of the most iconic movie characters of all time because of his fight and determination to succeed.

“We wanted to embody that, while also having a little fun along the way, to showcase the sport ahead of our takeover of the Manchester Arena.”
