HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series 2016-2017- Clermont-Ferrand
24 June – 25 June 2017
This weekend sees the final round of the HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series in Clermont-Ferrand.
New Zealand are hoping to seal their fourth series title, sitting comfortably on top of the standings going into the sixth round. The only other teams who can claim top prize are Canada and Australia, who are both tied for second place on 82 points, 14 behind the leaders.
Places are also up for grabs for the Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco next year.
New Zealand qualify as champions; they claimed the coveted trophy in Moscow in 2013, while Canada, Spain and USA all go through as a result of reaching the semi-finals at the same tournament.
The top four teams from the HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series 2016-17 – excluding pre-qualified teams – will progress to RWC Sevens 2018. This means Australia, Russia and Fiji all look in control of their own destiny, while one team from France, England and Ireland can still mathematically progress this weekend.
The remaining eight qualifiers for the event in July 2018 will progress through regional qualification.
Here are the weekend’s fixtures. Times stated are all local and results will be updated throughout the day.
