Alex, former Lancashire CCC Academy and LCB county age group girls’ player, moved to Middlesex to compete in the top flight of the domestic county championship and to challenge herself in new environments. She returns to Lancashire having had a successful 4 seasons with Middlesex and achieving reselection to the England Women’s Academy in 2014.

Last year saw her making her full England debut on 27th June against Pakistan and was instrumental in her first overseas International tour to West Indies where she achieved figures of 4 for 24 and leading wicket taker in the series with 13, a record for England in a bilateral one day series.

Alex joins England team-mates Kate Cross and England Senior Women’s Academy players Sophie Ecclestone, Emma Lamb, Ellie Threlkeld and new signing Evelyn Jones for what looks to be a strong squad to challenge in the top flight for both the Royal London Women’s One Day Championship and NatWest Women’s County T20 competitions.

Alex Hartley said: “I am so excited to be back at Emirates Old Trafford and I hope that I can play a big part in a successful season with the girls. There is so much home grown talent in the squad and the number of our girls playing at various England levels is so promising for the future at the Red Rose.

“2017 is a huge year for the women’s game and I am really looking forward to the start of the summer and the build up to the ICC Women’s World Cup.

“I am particularly looking forward to bowling in tandem with fellow left arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone as we both continue to develop. It should be a really exciting time!

“I’d like to thank everyone at Middlesex for the opportunities given to me during my time there.”

Daniel Atkinson, Head Coach of LCB Women, added: “We are really excited to be signing Alex ahead of the 2017 season. She’s been bowling really well over the past few seasons which has resulted in an England call up for her last summer. I’m really looking forward to seeing her back playing for Lancashire and bolstering our chances in Division One of both the One Day and T20 competitions.

“Alex has a brilliant attitude and will be great around the group. It’s really exciting to have the proposition of two of the best left arm spin bowlers in the country in Alex and Sophie Ecclestone.

“The squad have been training hard this winter and are really looking forward to getting going this season.”

The squad have started their winter preparation and are looking forward to hitting the ground running for the start of this season. Fixtures can be found below:
