Jen Jennings staying at New Ferens Park

Durham Women FC have announced that they are delighted that popular defender Jen Jennings will be staying with the Wildcats into 2017.

Jennings joined the Wildcats prior to the club joining the FA WSL and has gone on to make 23 appearances across three seasons in the Super League.

After her 2015 season was cut short by injury, the full-back battled back to fitness this season and won back her place in the starting line-up.

And her contribution in the second half of the season was vital – the defender made goal line blocks at both Everton and Millwall to help keep Durham’s promotion push alive.

Speaking after she agreed to stay at the club, Jennings said; “I’m very excited.  The club are going great places so it’s nice to be asked to stay for another year and hopefully be a part of that journey.

“It’s been a frustrating year and a half so I’m looking forward to being back in with the squad and building to getting back into that squad.

“With the squad we’ve got from last year and maybe some new additions we’re looking really strong so hopefully we’ll be in a similar situation to last season, challenging for those top four places or maybe even the top two.”

Manager Lee Sanders was pleased to keep Jennings, saying: “Jen’s had a setback this last year with an injury and worked extremely hard to come through and played well when she came back from that.

“She’s had another little setback but there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted her to stay. She’s a big part of the club on and off the field and I’m delighted she’s going to be with us for another year.”
