And now Roberts will look to replicate her fine form as Durham prepare for the FA WSL Spring series.

Commenting on her decision to stay at New Ferens Park, Roberts said: “I was always going to stay here. I’m really excited to be staying at the club.

“I didn’t want the season to finish because obviously I joined quite late on and I was enjoying it, so now I’m excited to go back.

“The club has been really good since I joined – it’s nice to be playing again and I’m enjoying my football.

“Everyone at the club has been lovely and it’s nice to be playing week in week out and enjoying myself with a good team.

“Personally, I’d like to get on the scoresheet more. I know I got a couple last season but I’d like to up that a little bit in the upcoming season.

“For the team we set the bar high this year so it would be nice to get higher than that.”

Manager Lee Sanders was delighted to keep the ex-Sheffield attacker at the club, saying: “I’m really pleased Emily will be staying with us.

“She’s a player we tried to sign on a couple of occasions before and we were delighted when we got her.

“She’s a great girl and fitted in straight away – she’s a lovely girl off the field which belies how competitive she in on it, and she got a couple of good deals this season including an important one away at Everton.

“I think she’ll have a big 2017 for us.”
