Durham Women FC have announced that fans’ favourite Sarah McFadden has agreed to stay with the club into 2017.
The Northern Irish international joined the Wildcats from Sunderland Ladies in January and quickly became a pivotal part of the side, missing only one game all season while netting twice.
And now, as she prepares to jet off on her honeymoon having recently been married, McFadden has agreed to stay with Durham as they look to build upon a record-breaking season.
Speaking after committing her future to the club, McFadden said: “There was no doubt about it, to be honest – as soon as I was asked to stay I wasn’t going to say no to it.
“I’m looking forward to the new year.
“I think last year we were an unknown quantity because we had added, and nobody knew what was going to happen.
“This year people will be a bit more cautious of us and know more of our strengths, but hopefully we’ll be able to do as well as we did last year.”
General Manager, Lee Sanders added: “I’m absolutely delighted that Sarah is staying. I said recently that, in my opinion, she was one of the signings of the season in our league and she’s proven that.
“It’s not just what she brings on the field, she’s excellent off it too and is a great role model for some of our younger players.
“I believe she’s at her peak and what we saw last season, and will continue to see, is a top top player.”
