With four teams still battling to reach WSL 1, we’re set for what could be a pivotal weekend.
The race for promotion to FA Women’s Super League 1 has never been more fiercely contested and this weekend could prove defining.
On Saturday afternoon fourth-placed Durham travel to Bristol City in second spot.
And less than 24 hours later league leaders Yeovil Town welcome Everton to Huish Park.
Just three points separate the four teams, with Everton and Durham having played one match less than those currently in pole position for promotion.
Yeovil Town Ladies captain Ellie Curson said “This is the type of game that we all look forward to and all want to be playing in.
“This is a game where as a squad we need to be in control of everything and put a performance in that we can be proud of. Everton will certainly be tough, but on home soil, we have produced some excellent displays and its time that we produced another one this Sunday at Huish Park.”
Only Everton and Sheffield have conceded fewer goals than Durham this term, who held Bristol City to a goalless draw at New Ferens Park in July.
There will be little room for error at the Stoke Gifford Stadium.
Yeovil looked to be cruising toward the title at the start of September, but nothing underlines the competitiveness of the division more than the home defeat to London Bees two weeks ago. Leading 2-0 in front of the home fans, the Bees hit back to become the first visitors to record a victory in FA Women’s Super League history at Huish Park.
Bouncing back against Everton will not be easy though. The Toffees triumphed 3-0 in July’s corresponding fixture, sparking a run that has rewarded them with 14 points from their last six matches.
Hold on to your hats, we are in for a wild ride!
