Huish Park will host a big cup tie this coming Sunday, when Yeovil Town Ladies look to overturn Women’s Super League one side Sunderland, knowing that they are just three games from Wembley.

YTLFC v Sunderland AFC Ladies

The black cats, finished fourth is WSL1 in the 2015 season, with just Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea above them. But with Yeovil (also a fourth placed team in the previous campaign) searching for promotion to WSL1 this year, this will be a tough test for Sunderland in this last 16 of the SSE FA Women’s Cup.

Manager Jamie Sherwood will be eager for his side to impress, who have 3 games in 7 days starting with Carlton Fairweather’s team this weekend, who will make a 700 mile round trip to Somerset.

Apart from new signing Kayleigh Green unavailable due to being cup tied, Sherwood is hopeful to have a full squad to select from, with the niggles and injuries from the previous week, which saw the friendly v Liverpool postponed, all progressing well.

It will be a special day for captain Ellie Curson, who will lead her team out at Huish Park for the first time. On her excitement to do this and commenting on the teams build up to the game, Curson said “It will be an honour to lead the girls out this weekend at Huish park. I am confident that we will put on another top performance and hope to see lots of our fans and new faces there supporting us from the stands.”

With the spirit of the 1949 giant killing v Sunderland, which is bound to be in the air on Sunday, manager Jamie Sherwood said: “The girls know exactly what our focus has to be on. We are prepared, ready and eager, to follow the achievement in 1949 and I know that Sunderland will be aware of this.”

“We will have to be at our best to progress to the quarter finals, but so too will Sunderland. We will give all we can to make our fantastic fans proud and happy.”

The game kicks off at 2.00pm, with turnstiles open from 12.30pm. Entrance to the conference facilities is from 12.00pm which also includes access to a pre-match carvery costing £8.95 (to book email crobinson@ytfc.net or tel 07976 630341).

Entrance to the game is £5.00 adults / £2.50 concessions which can be paid in cash on the day, or pre-booking tickets here.
