Yorkshire Jets were slain by Celtic Dragons in the Vitality Netball Superleague Round 6 – in Leeds to leave them rooted to the bottom of the Vitality Netball Superleague table.
Anna Carter was faced with injuries to two key players, Jess Shaw and Alex Kirk, and their loss showed on court as Jets went down to a 33-55 defeat to leave them as the only side without a win in this year’s competition.
It was a positive first quarter for Jets and they led by two points after the first 15 minutes with some impressive play in attack in defence. But consistency has been a problem for the home side all season and it showed in the second quarter as Dragons managed to reduce the deficit and then overtake Jets all too easily. The visitors then pulled out a five-point lead to go into half-time ahead by 22 points to 27.
There continued to be just too many errors for Jets in quarter three as the Welsh side extended their lead to eight points with misses in front of goal for Jets and a shooter at the other end of the court who didn’t look like missing.
In the final 15 minutes, things went from bad to worse for the capacity crowd at Leeds Beckett University as Dragons piled on the points and Jets failed to convert their chances. They only scored three points in the quarter while Dragons added 17. It told the story of the quarter and the match, gave the Welsh side their first points of the season and left Jets bottom of the table.
Jets will try to regroup but a win remains elusive with a Roses clash next up as Manchester Thunder visit Leeds on Saturday. Thunder suffered their first defeat of the season tonight, being beaten reigning champions Surrey Storm.
