England Women Under 20s beat a tenacious British Army side by 41-12 at the Army Rugby Stadium at Aldershot on Thursday.
Both teams played attacking rugby and England opened the scoring with a scorching try finished by the Wasps No 11 Abi Dow. The second was wholly different with loose head prop Ellena Perry crashing over from short range.
Twelve points adrift the Army re-grouped to shift another gear. Two cracking tries followed from re-born hooker Paula Robinson and full back Gemma Rowlands who surged through a gap invisible to the touch line. She dragged two England players over with her and converted her own try.
Unfortunately the Army were unable to add to the 12 points scored in the first half, but it wasn’t for lack of effort. As you would expect of an Army team the game was extremely competitive, but England had the edge with the regular club and university rugby making a difference.
England U20s scored seven tries altogether with 2 each for Abi Dow and Rachael Woosey, and one each for Ellena Perry, Kelly Smith and Sue Neumann.
England will now look to build on this success when they welcome France U20 to Esher Rugby Club on Saturday 5 March at 2pm. Tickets for the match are available via EsherRugby.com.
