Vitality Netball Superleague Round 3 – Surrey Sports Park, Guildford – 13 February 2016
Yorkshire Jets continue to look for their first win in this year’s Vitality Netball Superleague after defeat to the reigning champions Surrey Storm.
They were beaten by 23 points but it was an improved performance, particularly in the first half, with Anna Carter’s side managing to contain the hosts for large parts of the opening 30 minutes.
Storm got off to a strong start and took an early lead but Jets fought back at the end of the first quarter to trail by just four points.
In the second 15 minutes, the home side extended their advantage but couldn’t pull away from Jets thanks to some impressive work from the Yorkshire side at both ends of the court. At half time, Storm led 26-19.
After the break, Imogen Allison came on at Wing Defence and the action continued to be end-to-end for a time until a series of quick goals from Storm’s Rachel Dunn saw their lead grow to 16 by the end of the third quarter.
In the final 15 minutes, the home side continued to dominate and show the sort of form that brought them the title in 2015. They pressed home their advantage to win the game with a final score of 59-36.
Next up for Yorkshire Jets is their first game in Leeds of the season – they take on Hertfordshire Mavericks next Saturday, centre pass is 4pm.
