Durham Women FC have announced the signing of goalkeeper Megan Borthwick from Newcastle United Women. Following the departure of Anna Moorhouse, the club have moved quickly to secure the services of Borthwick ahead of the 2016 season.
Borthwick, 19, has made five appearances for Newcastle United in the 2015/16 season and will now be keen to make an impact at New Ferens Park.
Upon signing, Borthwick said: “I’m happy to have signed for Durham. They are a good side and I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead. I can’t wait to get out on the training pitch.”
Commenting on the addition of the stopper, General Manager Lee Sanders added: “Megan is an excellent young goalkeeper and someone who we have known of for many years as she competed in junior football against some of our current squad members.
“We are delighted she has agreed to join us and know that training with the other goalkeepers at the club and closely with Helen Alderson will help hugely in her development.
“She already has some experience at FA WPL level and will look to add Womens Super League experience to that.”
