University of Bath-based swimmers Jazz Carlin and Siobhan-Marie O’Connor both recorded wins for Europe All-Stars when they competed in the annual Duel in the Pool against the United States in Indianapolis.
Carlin, fresh from winning two gold medals at the European Short-Course Championships, continued her fine form by winning the 400m freestyle in a new personal best of 3:58.07. She was also sixth in the 800m race in 8:21.33.
O’Connor anchored the European 4x100m freestyle relay team of Aliaksandra Herasimenia (Belgium), Ranomi Kromowidjojo (Netherlands) and Jeanette Ottesen (Denmark) to victory in 3:27.61.
She was also runner-up to Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu in the 200m individual medley in 2:05.19 and recorded third-placed finishes in both the 100m butterfly and 200m freestyle.
University of Bath Chemical Engineering graduate Andrew Willis was also in the Europe All-Stars team, finishing third in the 200m breaststroke in 2:03.60 and sixth in the 100m race in 58.69.
Despite their best efforts, it was the United States who recorded their seventh successive victory over Europe in the annual event by 155-107.
Carlin, O’Connor and Willis are all coached by Dave McNulty and Graeme Antwhistle at the British Swimming National Centre in the Sports Training Village.
Meanwhile, University of Bath Honorary Graduate Ellie Simmonds took a second off her own World Record time as she won the SM6 200m individual medley title in 3.00.01 at the National Para-Swimming Championships in Manchester.
