  • +1

University of Bath tennis player Emma Hurst will take on some of the best student aces in the world after being selected to represent Great Britain in the Master’U BNP Paribas tournament in France.

The Sport & Exercise Science student, a 2014-15 Trendell Sports Scholar, is among the team of three ladies and three men who will be going for glory in Rennes from December 3-6.

Also taking part are seven of the other top university tennis nations in the world – the US, France, Russia, China, Belgium, Ireland and Germany.

Nineteen-year-old Hurst, a Dual Career student, gained a WTA ranking in the summer and plays at number one for the University of Bath women’s team in BUCS [British Universities & Colleges] competitions.

She recently enjoyed two of the best results of her career as she qualified for the main draw of the $25k Aegon GB Pro-Series ladies’ tournament at the University of Bath.

Barry Scollo, Director of Tennis at Team Bath MCTA, said: “It is fantastic that Emma has been selected from such a strong field of players.

“She is the third University of Bath student to be picked for this event, following on from Steph Cornish and Alex Walker, and it is great to see our players continue to progress onto the international stage.”

Scollo will once again coach and captain the British team, whose previous best result was a bronze medal in 2013.
