The Rugby League Women & Girls Management Group have announced that Stanningley has won the right to host the next Women’s RL County Origin Series.
Following a tender process to draw bids from interested clubs both Thatto Heath and Stanningley were chosen, in part, due to their commitment to both Girls and Women’s Rugby League. It was then agreed each club would host one event.
The series will be hosted in Yorkshire for the first time on Sunday October 23, 2016; the event being pushed back one week in the calendar to allow for a longer preparation time for the respective squads.
“We are overwhelmed with the reception this event has had this year, especially the trending on social media” commented Chairwoman Pat Crawshaw.
“Thatto Heath did a fantastic job as hosts and I’m sure Stanningley will do likewise. The dramatic last minute score certainly helped to set up next year’s series and I’m sure Yorkshire players will want to win it outright for the first time, especially with home advantage.” Added Crawshaw.
At least two games will once again take place with the Management Group keen to offer representative honours for young players and encourage the step up into adult competition. The event will then go back out to tender for 2017 onwards.
Stanningley’s Jon Norfolk added: “We are really happy to be chosen to host the Women’s Origin Series next year; we know it was a really successful day and look forward to running a great event in 2016.”
