Bees earn late draw against Yeovil Town

  • +1

Andria Georgiou climbed off the bench and fired in a free-kick to secure a valuable point for London Bees against promotion-chasing Yeovil Town.

An exciting first half produced a hatful of chances at both ends, with Bees’ Sophie Harris on exceptional form to deny multiple long-range efforts. She was beaten in the 28th minute, however, as Natasha Knapman opened the scoring, keeping her cool admirably when through on goal.

Going behind seemingly knocked the hosts’ confidence, already down after a recent disappointing run of three defeats in a row in all competitions, and their composure on the ball suffered on a warm and draining afternoon at The Hive.

The Bees returned for the second half resurgent and, after a smart Gemma Fraser through-ball, Paula Howells did well in the 48th minute to slide the ball past Alice Evans and into the far corner.

Yeovil refused to settle for a point and substitute Shauna Cossens made an almost immediate impact, finishing beautifully from the edge of the box on 58 minutes.

Bees’ own substitute Georgiou was not to be outdone though, equalising with a marvellous free-kick from similar distance five minutes later as Yeovil dropped points in WSL 2 for the first time since the World Cup concluded.
