Dorset based 18 year old Emily Donovan has just signed first team forms for Women’s Super League club Yeovil Town Ladies, just days before the team head to Huish Park to face Millwall Lionesses.
Donovan has impressed manager Jamie Sherwood with the application she has shown and her progression, drive and determination in the development team squad, where she was a regular player, making 19 appearances and scoring 3 goals. And with Huish Park ready and waiting for its first female match for over 2 years, Yeovil have shown the clubs progression of players within its own ranks, by offering the just rewards for the hard work put in by the individual.
Donovan grew up in Dorset, making her way through the Dorset FA Centre of Excellence, before heading across the border to Somerset Centre of Excellence when the Dorset centre changed to a performance centre. After her final year as an U16 player with Somerset Centre of Excellence, Donovan moved and re-located her studies to play for Reading FC Women, before moving back home and joining Yeovil Town Ladies, where she has been a development team player ever since.
Sherwood had this to say on announcing the news of Donovan signing first team forms. “I am really excited by the signing of Emily Donovan as she has come through the development squad and is an energetic midfielder with a great work ethic and has a good eye for goal and superb understanding of her time and space.”
Sherwood went on by saying “I am confident that Emily will be one of a number of development team players who could make the step up to first team level and she has shown just what it takes.”
Donovan said ” Yeovil Town Ladies as a club are going places, and I feel privileged to be involved in the journey. This is the perfect opportunity to allow me to continue my development, and I am grateful to all associated with the club for making me feel welcome and helping me to progress as a player and a person.”
You can see if Donovan is in the squad for Sunday’s game at Huish Park, when the Lady Glovers face Millwall Lionesses in a 2.00pm KO. Tickets can be purchased here costing £4.00 adults / £2.50 concessions.
