England and Australia players come together in Taunton this weekend to launch Women’s Ashes series.
The England and Australia women’s teams will join forces to launch the 2015 Women’s Ashes series this Saturday (18th July), at the County Ground, Taunton.
Led by England women’s captain Charlotte Edwards and her Australian counterpart, Meg Lanning, the players from both squads will help to deliver a free, fun cricket session for the local community on the outfield from 17.00-18.00, followed by a question & answer event involving members of both sides from 18.00-19.00.
A BBQ provided by England cricket team sponsor, Waitrose, will also be available throughout the event, and fans will be able to get batting and bowling tips from the likes of England’s Sarah Taylor and Australia’s Ellyse Perry.
Speaking about the Women’s Ashes launch event, England women’s captain, Charlotte Edwards, said:
“With one week to go until the start of the Women’s Ashes, the excitement throughout the England squad is tangible – we are really looking forward to getting things underway in Taunton in the first Royal London ODI next Tuesday.
“The 2015 Women’s Ashes series gives us the perfect platform to inspire women and girls to love and play cricket, and this free community launch event in partnership with Somerset CCC at the County Ground in Taunton this Saturday will provide a fitting start to possibly the most eagerly anticipated series that I have ever been involved in. This summer we hope that more fans than ever before will come and watch us play.”
The Women’s Ashes series will get underway on Tuesday 21st July with the first Royal London ODI at the County Ground in Taunton. The players will then play the second Royal London ODI at the Bristol County Ground on 23rd July, before the third and final 50-over match takes place at Worcestershire’s New Road on 26th July.
Following the Royal London ODIs, the Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence will host the single Women’s Ashes Kia Test match from Tuesday 11th to Friday 14th August.
The Essex County Ground, the BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground and the SSE SWALEC Stadium will stage the three Women’s Ashes NatWest T20Is on 26th, 28th and 31st August, with the third match in Cardiff being played immediately before the men’s NatWest T20I between England and Australia.
The 2015 series will be the third time that the Women’s Ashes have been contested across all three formats of the game – three ODIs, one Test and three T20Is – with two points available for a win in each of the ODIs and T20Is and four points up for grabs for the winner of the Test match. Two points will be awarded to each side in the event of a drawn Test.
