Former England and Manchester United football legends, England women’s footballers and stars from Coronation Street have joined forces with netball team Manchester Thunder for a special promotional video ahead of the team’s Superleague semi final match at the Manchester Arena on 18th April.
In the video, Manchester United legends Gary and Phil Neville (whose sister Tracey Manchester Thunder’s coach) and Paul Scholes are among the stars taking part in an “Amarillo” sketch, a nod to Peter Kay’s 2005 Comic Relief charity No.1 single.
The Neville brothers and Scholes are joined in the video by current England footballers Toni Duggan (Manchester United) and Chelsea’s Eniola Aluko and their international team-mates, as well as Coronation Street actors Brooke Vincent, Hayley Tamaddon and Katy Cavanagh.
The video, which also features Manchester Thunder players, coaches, and supporters, was filmed at iconic venues across the city, including Old Trafford and Coronation Street and the Manchester Arena.
Coronation Street’s Brooke Vincent, who plays Sophie Webster on the show, said: “I am so proud of the Thunder girls. This is massive for them and for netball and they are finally getting the recognition they deserve. This is not just great for netball but for women’s sport too. When you are that good it will be so nice to have all those people cheering you on. It’s a great fun family event.”
