The Women’s Junior and Youth World Championships took place between 16 – 23 May 2015 in Taipai.
England sent a team of five boxers: three youths, Ebonie Jones (51kg), Shona Whitwell (60kg) and Chantelle Reid (75kg) and two juniors Chloe Watson (46kg) and Ivy Jane Smith (52kg).
Watson and Whitwell made it through to the quarter finals but both lost on a unanimous points decision to Tuvakova (Russia) and Ichshanova (Kazakhstan) respectively.
Chantelle Reed, however, made it through to the semi-finals and faced Surmeneli (Turkey). Both boxers had met on two occasions prior to this competition and held one win each, so it was all to box for in order to secure a place in the final.
The contest was a very close affair with Chantelle just running out of gas in the latter stages of the fight, allowing the Turk to win on a split decision. But Chantelle proudly returned to the UK with a World Youth Bronze medal, a fantastic achievement.
