The Welsh and USA Rugby Unions have announced an imaginative link-up. They will stage an exhibition match between a US Falcons XV and a Wales XV.
It will take place on 12 March at Parc y Scarlets, Llanelli. This is a reserve day on the Prem 15s calendar.
The 23 Americans are based in England with Prem 15s clubs. All are in the national US pool, but can’t be considered as full-blown Eagles on this occasion, so ‘Falcons’ it is.
The match will be invaluable for both sides.
Rob Cain and some of his staff will be there to check on players they won’t have seen since the last meet. Next month there will be a parallel meet-up for the rest of the squad in the States.
For Ioan Cunningham and his assistants it will be another chance to fine-tune preparations for the Six Nations.
It’s quite excellent to see this innovative idea come to fruition.
