An unsuccessful bear hunt in the West Country for Wasps as Bears maintain their unbeaten run in the Allianz Premier 15s and come away with a 36-17 win over Wasps.
It was a quick start as Bears opened the game in the third minute with a try from Butchers on the outside. Then with a penalty in their favour, Williams kept Wasps in the game, slotting a kick from in front of the posts.
Wasps did well to shut Bristol down at the line out and defend their driving maul, forcing Bristol to play wide. Bristol ran in two more tries in the first half first from Keight and then from Powell.
It was Wasps who had the last say in the half, with a penalty try in their favour after Bristol were penalised on the line. With 9 points between them and Bristol down a player with Ward in the bin, it was all to play for going into the second half.
Wasps started out on fire with Muir putting them back in the game with a try scored from a driving maul. Williams had the extras to keep them within two points of the hosts.
Despite the relentless efforts of Wasps in defence, it was Bristol who ran away with the game in the final quarter, running in three tries, the first from West- ex Wasps player. Then it was Keight and Powell who made it two a piece to bring Bristol’s try total to six.
An unsuccessful Bear Hunt on the scoreboard but true grit shown on the field from the entire squad and a performance to build on going into next week’s Wasps Fest against Sale Sharks.
