Lancashire Thunder is delighted to announce that New Zealand international Amy Satterthwaite will return to Emirates Old Trafford as an overseas player for a third successive season, ahead of the 2018 Kia Super League (KSL).
All-rounder Satterthwaite, who hails from Canterbury, is a right arm off spin bowler who bats left-handed and has 190 international caps to her name across both ODI and T20 cricket.
The 31-year-old captained Thunder back in 2016, during the inaugural Kia Super League, and has finished as the side’s highest run scorer in both campaigns.
Satterthwaite was also the leading run scorer for Melbourne Renegades in the 2017/18 Women’s Big Bash League with 368 runs, including two fifties, and took 11 wickets.
She becomes the second player to join Lancashire Thunder since new Head Coach Alex Blackwell was announced earlier this year, after Indian international Harmanpreet Kaur signed last week.
Blackwell said, “I am delighted that we have had the opportunity to bring Amy back to Lancashire Thunder for the 2018 Kia Super League.
“She is a world class performer who is vastly experienced and has enjoyed success on both the international stage and in domestic cricket competitions around the world.
“Amy knows Lancashire Thunder and Manchester well, as she has played her cricket here since the start of the Kia Super League. I have no doubt that she will play an important role for us again this season.”
Satterthwaite holds the distinct record of being the only female cricketer to score four consecutive hundreds in One Day Internationals (ODIs), only Kumar Sangakkara has done the same in men’s ODI cricket.
Amy Satterthwaite, added, “I’m so excited to be back playing for Lancashire Thunder for a third consecutive season.
“I’ve been part of Thunder since the start of the Kia Super League and had the honour of captaining the side back in 2016.
“Last season’s KSL was disappointing for us, but I feel that this side can definitely challenge and as a squad we are determined to do so, especially now that we have Alex Blackwell in as our Head Coach.
“Alex is somebody that I have competed against in international and domestic cricket. I am looking forward to working under her leadership and I hope that she can pass on some of her experience.”
This summer’s KSL has doubled in size from five to 10 matches, with teams playing each other home and away between July 22 and August 19. The top three of the six teams advance to Finals Day at Hove on August 27. The Thunder’s first game is against Loughborough Lightning at Southport and Birkdale Cricket Club on Sunday 22 July.
