Worcester Valkyries Director of Rugby Roy Davies was quick to praise 18-year-old Megan Varley after the youngster made her first-team debut at the weekend at Loughborough Lightning in the Tyrrell’s Premier 15s.
The centre impressed on her first outing despite her side going down 46-12 to a strong Loughborough outfit.
And new boss Davies said: “Megan was fantastic today. She did exactly what we asked of her and executed play well every time she went near the ball.
“She showed good accuracy and was very physical against some experienced players at the top level. She was a threat all day.”
The young back revealed her delight at stepping out on the big stage for the first time but knows her side must improve ahead of this Saturday’s first home game of the season against Bristol Ladies Rugby (kick-off 2pm).
She added: “Making my first-team debut was a big milestone. It was very physical and there was a lot to do throughout the game but I really enjoyed it.
“We were slow to start the game. We improved after the break and made a game of it but unfortunately we were outdone by the better team on the day.
“We’ll work on what we didn’t get right and look to get things right ahead of Bristol’s visit.”
