Worcester Valkyries hooker Lark Davies has been named as Club captain ahead of the inaugural 2017/18 Tyrrell’s Premier 15s campaign.
As one of the Valkyries’ highest-appearance makers last season, having played 17 times in all competitions, the 21-year-old forward admitted that being handed the captain’s armband is a “huge honour”.
She said: “My involvement with Worcester from a young age has made this captaincy a great personal achievement.
“I feel that my knowledge of the Club puts me in a great position to represent and be the figurehead of the players both on and off the field.
“It’s a huge honour to be chosen to captain Worcester Valkyries and I’m really excited for the new season ahead of us.”
New Director of Rugby Roy Davies chose the young England international to lead the side having impressed during pre-season.
And he expressed that the hooker’s experience was a key factor in his decision.
He said: “I’m delighted that Lark accepted my offer to captain the side and I look forward to working with her to develop the Valkyries’ culture and values.
“She has excellent leadership qualities and is an outstanding role model for our young squad.
“She is a local girl who has grown into a key figure at the Club and has gained international honours.
“Since joining the Club I’ve been really impressed with Lark’s rugby understanding, knowledge and the way she articulates that to others.
“Most importantly, I know she works hard, leads from the front and will hold herself accountable to the same high standards that she expects from others.”
Davies rose through the ranks at Worcester having joined at the age of 13 and now heads into her tenth season at the Club.
And she’s looking forward to the first game of the new campaign which kicks off this Saturday at Loughborough Lightning (kick-off 12pm).
She added: “I’m excited to lead this group of players. We have worked hard for each other during pre-season and have started to build some good relationships with new players.
“The attitude and work-ethic shown has been brilliant. We’ll look to continue this into our first game against Loughborough and we’re all raring to go.”
