Yeovil Town Ladies will face FA Women’s Super League one side Sunderland Ladies in the 5th round of the SSE FA Women’s Cup, with the game now announced that it will be played at Huish Park on Sunday 20th March.
The Ladies will be hoping to follow the success of their male counter parts, when in 1949 Yeovil Town FC were a part of the all time greatest FA Cup giant killing.
At the time of the game Yeovil Town FC were sixth from bottom playing in the Southern League, when Sunderland, ‘the Bank of England club’ came to Somerset, but were turned over 2-1 by Yeovil, with Alec Stock scoring the opening goal when Sunderland’s Jackie Robinson equalised, before a 105th minute winner from Eric Bryant sealed the win.
The game was played in front of 17,000 fans, which considering the town of Yeovil only had a population of 23,000 was fantastic.
Yeovil Town Ladies will be hoping for a large following on the day, which sees the Lady Glovers play in their joint furthest position ever, in the FA Women’s Cup, following their penalty shoot out win recently against local rivals Bristol City Women (formerly named Bristol Academy Women).
Sunderland, who finished in fourth place in Women’s Super League one in the 2015 season will be tough opponents, with Carlton Fairweather assembling a strong squad.
Tickets for the game can be purchased by clicking here costing £5.00 adults, £2.50 concessions/children. Alternatively, you can purchase a 2016 season ticket, which will enable entry to this game at no extra cost.
