Inaugural MetroBank One Day Cup(2025): Women’s top ten bowlers strike rates and economy in both leagues

*Understanding a bowler’s impact considers the number of wickets they took; as well as runs conceded against the number of balls played. *Bowler’s ‘strike rate’ is helpful to predict when a bowler may take a wicket. *Total number of balls delivered are divided by the total number of wickets taken, expressed as an average (percentage.) *Lowest score increases probability that wicket-taking should happen sooner; albeit ignoring runs conceded. *As wicket-taking ability needs to be balanced against runs conceded, the total number of runs conceded is divided by the total number of balls delivered and divided by six to give a bowler’s average number runs-per over’ (conceded) ‘r-p-o’ that indicates a bowler’s economy. *‘Wides’ and ’no balls,’ never counted as balls bowled as always scored separately as ‘extras.’ *For best comparison, all analysis was confined to the top qualifying teams competing in each ‘group stage’ with at least 50 runs conceded.

Bowling ‘top ten’ performers with lowest strike rates ’sr’ for league one (50 overs) at group stage

‘League one’ teams played up to 14 matches in total at their group stage, to qualify for the final. Lancs women  rounded-off a ‘really successful year’ as inaugural winners, with Hants The Blaze and Surrey women as other group stage qualifiers.

‘League two’ teams played up to 9 matches total at their group stage, for a qualifying semi-final place (Yorks women as eventual winners, with Glamorgan-w, Middx-w and Steelbacks women as other qualifiers.)
