  • +1

Essex (women) vs Durham (women) (match 55 – league one) at the Chelmsford Ambassador Cruise Line County Ground (Essex) on Friday 18 July 2025 (at 18h00 with floodlights)

Guest Australian Maddie Penna  opened with Essex women’s skipper Scrivens, their partnership added 63 runs from 52 balls. Their second-wicket partnership added 66 (from 44) between skipper Grace Scrivens 48(39) partnered by Cordelia Griffith [60runs (from 35 balls).] Durham Cricket women bowlers ‘finished strongly.’ Visitors ‘kept the scoreboard ticking’ with both openers batting through their power-play, as had their hosts. Durham Cricket women were ‘kept in contention’ Bess Heath 24(18) partnered by Mady Villiers 28(22). Essex spinners Sophia Smale and Abtaha Maqsood ‘squeezed the visitors’ leaving Maddie Penna ‘to close the game out’ during the final over ‘finale.’  Maddie Penna’s ‘death’ over bagged three Essex wickets, two of which were match-winning ‘stumpings’ by returning keeper Amara Carr – pictured. Commentators were Toby Reynolds (Sports Gazette’s cricket editor) with Guy Swindells (Sports journalist.) Post-match, Toby Reynolds interviewed POTM Cordelia Griffith, who made top-score for Essex women – please see below.
