Hampshire Hawks (women) vs Bears (women) (match 47 – league one ’double-header’ fixture) at the Utilita Bowl, Southampton on Sunday, 13 July 2025 (11h00)
Bears women beat Hawks to ‘cement’ their second-place position to qualify for Finals Day (ceteris paribus – all other things being equal) now nine points behind the leaders (Surrey). By comparison, Hawks women are ‘pretty much out of it,’ unable to qualify having lost four of their last five matches. Described as batting with ’absolute class,’ Davina Perrin top-scored for Bears with 70 (scored from 48 balls) Guest Australian Laura Harris [32runs (from 15balls)] played an effective cameo helping Bears to post a ‘big total.’ Hawks spinner Bex Tyson took a 3-fer (taking 3wickets/conceding 27 runs.) By comparison, Bears best bowler was Hannah Baker (who took 3/18.) Reviewing post-match, commentators felt the match became ‘quite tricky’ when Hawks lost five wickets advantage past mid-way, ‘for around forty runs’. Guest Australian Ellyse Perry made top-score for Hawks, but once removed, Bears women were said to be ‘on-top’ as score-board pressure mounted for Hawks. Separately, it did not go unnoticed that both Taylor Twins (Mary and Millie) got to bowl, but didn’t face each other with the bat. Commentators were Kevan ‘Kev’ James (BBC Sport, Radio Solent) with co-commentator Charlie Harden (BBC Sports Xtra 3, Radio Solent) and Alex. Post-match, Georgia Adams told Kev James she was disappointed but remained optimistic for next season’s t20 – please see below. Weather: Hot and sunny, stated by Charlie Harden as 27C
