Durham Women sign England youth international Grace Ede

Durham Women are delighted to announce the signing of England youth international Grace Ede.

The exciting 19-year-old makes the move to Maiden Castle after departing local rivals Sunderland – and becomes the club’s first summer signing ahead of the new Barclays Women’s Super League 2 campaign.

Ede came through the ranks at Sunderland and her early performances saw her quickly regarded as one of the country’s brightest up-and-coming talents.

That saw Manchester City come calling and Ede spent time in the North West before penning her first professional contract back on Wearside at the age of 18.

Since then she has gone on to establish herself as a key player in Barclays Women’s Super League 2 and helped the Black Cats to a third-place finish in 2023/24.

Despite her young age, the versatile left-sided player has already racked-up over 60 senior games in the English second tier – while also featuring for England at under-19 level.

And now, having put pen to paper on terms at Durham, Ede is raring to go in Blue.

“I’m really excited to be here and I can’t wait to get started,” she said.

“The club has really big ambition and they know where they want to be – in the WSL.

“The girls did really well last season so hopefully we can push on from that this season.

“Every time I’ve played at Maiden Castle the crowd is really loud, especially when it’s a derby, so I can’t wait to see them and hopefully that will continue this season.

“More teams have the chance to get promoted this year and that’s a really good opportunity for everyone.

“It will make the league more competitive and that’s really exciting for everyone.”
