Fast lawns, tight hoops and new balls created drama at the Men’s Women’s & Mixed Doubles
It was reported by some of the players that the lawns at Nottingham Croquet Club were in great playing conditions, creating a competitive playing field for all the competitors. Using Quadway hoops which are designed to be firm and tough to score, both Jenny Clarke and James Death (Nottingham Croquet Club) showed championship form. It was reported that their standard was higher than the other competitors throughout the entire event.
Both Jenny and James have played for their country in the AC World Team Championship, New Zealand and England respectively. If their form continues we are likely to see them compete in their teams once again when the prestigious MacRobertson Shield returns to England in 2026.
The Men’s, Women’s & Mixed doubles also has a mixed event, the Du Pre. This year Ian Lines (Peterborough Croquet Club) took one of Croquet’s most beautiful trophies home winning the event with 100% wins.
With thanks to Croquet England
