Essex women vs Hampshire Hawks women (match 20, league one – ‘double-header’) Ambassador Cruise Line Ground, Chelmsford on Thursday, 12 June 2025

Leading run-scorer Ella McCaughan [106 runs (from 60 balls)] made history at least three times: firstly becoming the first women to score a ‘Vitality Blast T20 century.’ Secondly Ella McCaughan partnered by Charli Knott (pictured) [72*not out (from 55)] shared a record second-wicket stand of 173 runs – Thirdly, the pair set the highest partnership for any wicket. Essex women replied with level-pegging until their ‘power-play’ (46/0 vs 50/1.) Essex women’s run-chase was hampered by ‘excellent Hampshire bowling.’ Skipper Georgia Adams’s spin took 4 wickets (conceding 26 runs); and Mary Taylor’s seam took 2/16. Sophia Smale’s cameo scored above par 24(16), by which time Essex women found themselves some way short. Speaking post-match, Essex women’s head coach Andy Tennant felt that Hawks women’s score could have been attainable had more opportunities been taken in the field – please see below. Commentators (unannounced) were believed to be Kevin Hand with with Dan Whiting (@Themiddlestump) Weather was overcast 14C
