Lancashire Thunder vs Surrey women (match 14 league one) at Manchester, Emirates Old Trafford on Saturday, 7 June 2025
Top-of-table found their journey to Old Trafford was worthwhile, bagging their third win from three matches (played-to-date.) Before the match, Fraser Dainton interviewed Danni Wyatt-Hodge pitch side, who played tribute to Surrey as her new team and looked forward to a ’top-drawer’ match. Legendary Old Trafford rain reduced the match to eleven overs per side, following a late start. Playing in ‘tough conditions’ Thunder’s main partnership between skipper Ellie Threlkeld [29runs(from 25balls) and top-scorer Fi Morris [29(25)] added fifty runs. Commentators detected a loud cheer from the visitor’s dug-out when Paige Scholfield (pictured) [16*not out] struck what turned out to be the winning ’six’ with rain pouring down. Shortly afterwards, it became clear that Umpires had no appetite to continue and players were seen shaking hands. Commentators were Scott Reid (Sports journalist, for Lancs TV) co-commentator Faith Florence, a Thunder fan on twitter @thefaithflo and Fraser Dainton pitch-side for Lancs TV. Weather was overcast with intermittent rain 14C.
