Durham women vs Somerset women – (match 13) – at Chester-le-Street (Banks Homes Riverside) on Sunday 4 May 2025 (10h30)
Somerset women chalked-up a ‘hard-fought win’ in difficult weather conditions in the North-East. Rain stopped play after three balls, the second of which had already costs the hosts their first wicket. Once play resumed, seventy minutes later Umpires docked two overs from each innings. Durham Cricket skipper Hollie Armitage [89 runs (from 94 balls)] went on to make top-score; complimented by a comparable contribution of runs from middle-order batters (Leah Dobson, Phoebe Turner and Katherine Fraser.) More rain prompted a further nine overs to be docked from the visitors innings and a new target was set according to Duckworth-Lewis-Stern. Remarkably, ex-England batter Fran Wilson 68(68) partnered by debutante Bex Odgers’ innings 60(74) nudged Somerset women into a winning position – please see video clip links below. Pictured (centre) Amanda-Jade Wellington 31*not out (27) partnered by Alex Griffiths 15*not out(22) chalked-up a second consecutive DLS win, Somerset scoring fewer runs to win because of their adjusted lower DLS target score. Commentators were Kathryn ‘Kath’ Wilkins (exCoach for Wales Women and former England International & Somerset Women), with Polly Starkie (Social media co-host ‘Noughtie Child Podcast’ and ‘HerGameToo’ cricket ambassador) Weather Rain clearing, patches of blue sky but Cold and chilly 12C
