The Hundred Trophy 2024 – match 7 – Originals vs Trent Rockets

  • +1

Manchester Originals vs Trent Rockets at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester on 29 July 2024

Commentators were sympathetic for Rockets’ skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt, who top-scored with ‘fifty,’ set a new record 4th wicket partnership with Australia’s Ash Gardner, but still fell short of snatching victory by one solitary run. By contrast, Originals chalked-up their first win before their home crowd on a fine summer’s day on a ‘belter-of-a-pitch;’ with a quick outfield. Summarising the match, once Originals posted a ‘competitive score,’ it was up to the bowlers to ‘contain’ Nat Sciver-Brunt batting with Ash Gardner. Lauren Filer received POTM ‘Meerkat match hero’ cap-and-medal for taking most wickets for the winning team. Kathryn Bryce’s ‘held her nerve.’ That resulted in the first ‘one run’ victory in the Women’s Hundred (to date.) Before the match, Alana King (Rockets) gave a demonstration of Warne’s ‘ball-of-the-century’ technique (1993) that she used during the previous match. Both Originals and Rockets have won and lost their first two matches. After the match, Lauren Filer told commentators that it was ‘good to get over the line’ – please see below.
