Facts about so-called ‘cricket with fireworks’ (as Monty Panesar once put it)

What can you expect to happen during this year’s Women’s Hundredtournament: will A) Southern Brave win a second back-to-back title ? B) Oval Invincibles win their Third title? or C) will the title bagged by one of the other six teams?

  1. Batter scoring the most runs? Last year Danni Wyatt scored 295 runs (2023); with Tammy Beaumont 5 runs behind on 290; with Phoebe Litchfield (Australia) third on 279; according to Statisca
  2. A second Centurion batter? Tammy Beaumont scored 118 runs (from 61 balls) to chalk-up the first women’s ‘ton,’ on August 15, 2023; breaking Beth Mooney’s (Australia) record 97*not out. Previously, that beat Jemimah Rodrigues’s (India) inaugural year’s record (for 2021) that stood at 92*not out (43.)
  3. A second ‘5-fer?’ Last year, Fi Morris bagged the first five-wicket haul (5/7) for Manchester Originals on August 7, 2023; with at least dozen bowlers bagging ‘4-fers’ since the competition began;
  4. Bowler taking the most wickets? Last year, Georgia Adams took 16 wickets for Southern Brave; with 5 runs bowlers taking 11 wickets including Sarah Glenn; according to Statisca;
  5. At least one match beating the record innings total? ‘Fire’ set a new innings score for the Women’s Hundred 188/3 (versus ‘Rockets’) thanks mainly to Tammy Beaumont’s ton.
  6. At least one match breaking the 300-run barrier? Last year, the first of three matches with combined innings totals above 300 runs ‘set a new record:’ Firstly, 326 from for ‘Brave’ on August 5th, 2021 underpinned by star batter Smriti Mandhana (India) who contributed 70 runs (from 42 balls); Confusion struck commentators when another two matches played afterwards (during the same month) also topped 300 runs, but with slightly fewer runs scored.
