Harlequins have announced the signing of Welsh forward Abbie Fleming from Allianz Premiership Women’s Rugby rivals Exeter Chiefs.
The 27-year-old began playing rugby aged 12 and enjoyed a successful move to Cardiff Rugby, captaining the squad, before signing for Exeter Chiefs in 2020. With the ability to cover second-row and back-row, Fleming is a versatile forward who provides a threat around the pitch and the lineout.
Fleming made her International debut for Wales against Spain in 2019 and has since achieved 10 Test caps. She started all five of Wales’ 2023 Six Nations matches and was a standout performer as the side qualified for the upcoming WXV 1 tournament.
Commenting on her signing, Fleming said: “I’m really looking forward to joining Harlequins. The Club provides an exciting prospect for me to improve my game and play alongside a talented group of players. I’m looking forward to challenging myself and developing both as a person and athlete.”
Head Coach Amy Turner said: “Abbie joins us in great form off the back of a strong Six Nations. She’s very dextrous and fits our style of play well. She’s a great person and will bring lots to this group off the pitch as well as on it.”
Abbie Fleming is the latest player to commit to Harlequins, alongside new signings Aseza Hele, Shaunagh Brown and Connie Powell, as well as Red Roses Lagi Tuima, Ellie Kildunne, Emily Scott and Lucy Packer.
Further announcements are scheduled shortly which will continue to underline the Club’s plan to develop the strongest women’s rugby programme in the Northern Hemisphere.
With thanks to Harlequins
