Harlequins have announced that Red Roses scrum-half Lucy Packer has renewed her contract with the Club.
The 23-year-old who was born in Wales joined Quins ahead of the 2018/19 season. A former Welsh 7s player, Packer switched allegiances to England in 2019 when she was called up to Simon Middleton’s squad for the Super Series in San Diego. Her Red Roses debut came in 2021 off the bench against the USA. She went on to represent the Red Roses at the 2021 Rugby World Cup, starting at scrum-half in the final against New Zealand.
In a Quins shirt, Packer has made 71 appearances across five seasons at the Club and was a member of the 2020/21 title wining squad.
Commenting on her signing, Packer said: “I’m excited to be going into my sixth season with Quins. It’s a special squad to be a part of and we’re confident we’re heading in the right direction. I’m proud to represent Quins and grateful for the opportunity to develop my game further.”
Harlequins Head Coach Amy Turner said: “We’re thrilled to have Lucy sign with us again. Her swift service from the base of the ruck has been integral to our attack this season, and allows us to play the fast, expansive style of rugby that we strive for.”
The announcement follows the re-signing of Red Roses Ellie Kildunne and Emily Scott, Scottish duo Jade Konkel and Sarah Bonar, and exciting trio Rosie Dobson, Izzy Mayhew and Freya Aucken.
Further announcements are due shortly which will continue to underline the Club’s plan to develop the strongest women’s rugby programme in the Northern Hemisphere.
With thanks to Harlequins
