Charlotte Edwards Cup – match 28 –  Thunder vs Diamonds

  • +1

North West Thunder vs Northern Diamonds on 7 June 2023 (11h30): at Blackpool Stanley Park

Diamonds’ Red Rose rivals Thunder (gaffed by Lancs TV interviewer as Lancs ‘Lightning’) are on a winning streak. 3rd-placed Diamonds confidence in their ‘unchanged team’s’ qualification for ‘Finals Day’ seemed reasonable, with 3 England players missing from their opponents team. By contrast, interviewed pre-match, West Indies Superstar Deandre Dottin had seen tremendous improvement ‘over the last 9 months’ within Thunder’s team. ‘Diamonds’ suffered a nightmare innings, once play started, failing to chalk-up anywhere near to a defendable score. Mounting Thunder’s successful run-chase, opener Naomi Dattani made 20 and Fi Morris closed 42 ’not out.’ Ellie Threlkeld scored the winning ’single.’ Separately, Fi Morris took 2/16 with the ball. After the match, skipper Ellie Threlkeld told reporters she was ‘really proud’ how Thunder had ‘turned the competition around,’ (to qualify 3rd, for their first ever Finals Day.) Lead commentator was Scott Read (Sports journalist, BBC radio Lancashire); with Paige Caunce (HerGameToo.) Video highlights via ECB online (via NV Play) edited from Lancs TV. Blackpool weather started ‘overcast and chilly’ with ‘white clouds clearing,’ giving way to ‘warm’ sunshine.
