Harlequins Women Head Coach Gerard Mullen has named his first matchday squad of the 2021/22 season as Quins host Loughborough Lightning this Sunday at The Stoop.
It will be a special day for both Emily Scott and Heather Cowell as they are both set to make their 50thappearance in the Famous Quarters after several seasons in South West London.
There are a number of players set to make their Harlequins debut, as Rosie Galligan and Ellie Kildunne start in the second row and at fullback respectively. Emma Swords starts at scrum-half after re-joining from Saracens Women this summer and Beth Blacklock will be looking to make an impact as a game changer after signing for the Club from DMP Durham Sharks.
New Forwards Coach Simeon Barnes is excited about Sunday’s fixture and believes Quins are ready for the test Loughborough Lightning will offer.
“Loughborough are a strong outfit, and we must be ready for everything they throw at us on Sunday.” Barnes said. “We expect that they will put boot to ball throughout the whole 80 minutes so we know our lineouts must be on point from beginning to end.
“This game is a real chance for us to show the rest of the league what we are about and how good we are as we look to defend our title and remain Champions.”
