Harlequins Women’s Forward Coach Karen Findlay will leave the Club at the end of the season after five successful years at The Stoop

An 85-cap Scotland international during her playing days, Findlay will leave the Club at the end of the current Allianz Premier 15s season after half a decade with Harlequins Women.

First joining the Club in 2016 from Richmond Women to take up a co-head coach role alongside 2014 Rugby World Cup-winning coach Gary Street, Findlay has balanced her time with Harlequins alongside her career as the Chief Superintendent of the Metropolitan Police. During her time with Harlequins, Findlay was the Silver Commander for the London Bridge attack in 2017.

Findlay has helped steer Harlequins Women to league and Cup doubles in the 2016/17 season and every final of the Premier 15s season to date since the league’s inception in 2017. Findlay has also played a leading role in the growth of Harlequins Women and Girl’s rugby programmes.

Harlequins’ General Manager Billy Millard said: “I’d like to take this chance to thank Karen for everything she has given to the Quins cause over the last five years. Karen is a truly passionate individual who has dedicated significant time to Harlequins Women alongside her career with the Met Police.

“We wish Karen nothing but the absolute best going forward, but I know she will give her all to helping the team lift silverware this season.”

Commenting on her departure, Findlay said: It’s been a pleasure to look back across the last five seasons, pausing to think about my part on all that has been achieved in building Harlequins Women to where we are now and the pride and privilege involved in coaching such a great squad of players.

“Above all what has hugely mattered to me is the players, doing what I can to help them reach their potential, driving them to be the best they can be on and off the field, and proudly watching them go on to achieving great things. That has included representation for so many nations, but equally as important is the huge respect I have for the players who genuinely carry the squad effort through the whole season, who play every game, are at every training session, and seeing leaders grow. True legends.

“So a big heartfelt thank you to everyone who has shared the journey, you have undoubtedly helped make it what it has been. I wish everyone at Quins every success for the future. And finally, #COYQ as we have a final to get to this season. Let’s finish this on a win please!”
