Following the Christmas break Loughborough Lightning return to action in the Tyrell’s Premier 15s as they travel to Worcester to take on the Valkyries this weekend.
In a rearranged game after adverse weather forced the postponement of this fixture in December, the match will be a re-run of the opening day fixture in the Tyrell’s Premier 15s. Playing on home soil on that day back in September, Lightning ran out convincing 46-12 winners, and will look for a similar result in their first game of 2018.
A tough defeat to Saracens in their last game of 2017 gave the women plenty to think about, and work on, as they reignite their bid for a top four place. Currently sixth in the table but with a game in hand, a win on Saturday would put the ladies right in the mix for a top four place.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s game Head Coach Rhys Edwards said: “Saturday is a must win game for us as we look to get 2018 off to the perfect start. The girls are physically and mentally refreshed after an impressive spell of training over the festive period, so I’ll expect them to come out raring to go. With a few of our senior figures on international duty there’s a great opportunity for some of our younger players to make their mark and bid for a regular place in the 15 and 22.”
The game takes place at Sixways Stadium on Saturday 6th January, 2pm kick off.
