The 33 year-old former seamer retired from the game shortly before the beginning of the 2016 season. He last year assisted Burton with the senior women’s side during the summer, and worked with Brighton College in a coaching capacity.

He has worked as a specialist fast bowling coach with Jon Lewis’s bowling group, and this winter continued as assistant coach until Burton stepped down in December, when he was promoted to lead the winter training programme with assistance from Alexia Walker.

He has also recently been appointed as Cricket Professional at Hurstpierpoint College.

Anyon joined Sussex as a player from Warwickshire in 2010 and took 199 first-class wickets for Sussex in 63 matches. He also made over 1,000 runs in his time at The 1st Central County Ground, Hove and in 2013 finished seventh in the list of Championship wicket-takers with a haul of 50.

He said of his appointment, “I’m looking forward to starting my new role. This is a great opportunity to continue working with Sussex, and hopefully we can build on the past successes that the team have achieved.

“The women’s game is a fast-growing sport and I am looking forward to bringing my own experiences from professional cricket and hopefully using them to help the girls moving forward.

“We have an exciting squad and some talented young players coming through, and we’re hoping to build a team in a successful environment for many seasons to come.”

Sussex have now also confirmed their coaches for the 2017 season for the Women and Girls County Age Group Squads. Anyon will head up both the senior team and the Under 19’s/21’s team, whilst varying specialist coaches such as Michael Yardy and James Kirtley will have input in the seniors’ coaching.

Alexia Walker, Sussex’s most capped women’s player ever, is Head Coach of the Under 17 team and will take on roles in the Senior and Under 19/21 sides.

Sussex’s Director of Cricket Keith Greenfield said, “Over the past year, Jimmy has made a significant impact around the women’s senior side and his appointment will be excellent for the continued aspiration to improve the quality of provision in the women’s game. He will be assisted by various other specialist coaches around the senior side from the professional coaching staff.

“Since the club’s merger, there have been many excellent initiatives to again increase the quality and quantity of provision. With Alexia assisting Jimmy in the Under 19 and 21 sides and heading up the Under 17 programme, and Ian Cox leading the Under 15 and assisting Alexia in the Under 17 programme, this will make a huge difference to the continuity throughout the upper end of the women and girls pathway, and give the extra provision that the sides have needed for a little while now.”
