Holcombe were knocked off the top of the Investec Women’s Hockey League Premier Division after being defeated 1-0 at home to East Grinstead.

Zoe Burrell scored the only goal of the game, converting a penalty corner on the stroke of half time to move the visitors above Holcombe and into second in the table.

The new league leaders are Surbiton, after they picked up all three points with a 3-0 win at Canterbury.

Jo Hunter and Hannah Martin scored before the interval, with Rebecca Middleton adding a third seven minutes from time.

Elsewhere, The University of Birmingham won 2-1 at Clifton Robinsons to leapfrog them in the table.

Erica Sanders scored her eighth of the season after three minutes, and despite a Jess Bloom equaliser, Amy Costello scored the winner just before the break.

Slough picked up their first win of the season in a closely fought 4-3 win at Bowdon Hightown.

Mel Bell hit a brace, with Philipa Newton and Amy Sheehan also on target for the visitors. Bowdon had twice equalised through Kayleigh Humphreys and Tara Melvin, and a late strike from Lily Wolstenholme proved to be a consolation.

Leicester ran out 3-0 winners at bottom side Reading. Two goals in two first half minutes from Katie Long and Madeleine Newlyn were added to by Liz George, to give the visitors all three points.

Investec Women’s Conference East

Sevenoaks made it five wins from five to stay top of the Investec Conference East, with a 6-1 win at Chelmsford.

Investec Women’s Conference North

Beeston had to settle for a 1-1 draw in the Investec Conference North at the University of Durham.

Ellie Rawnsley cancelled out Eloise Stenner’s opener, as both sides preserved their unbeaten starts to the season, Beeston stayed top.

Brooklands Poynton moved second with a comfortable 5-0 win at Timperley, with Aine Curran, Annie Mills, Caroline Hulme and Claire Wallace all scoring before the break.

Investec Women’s Conference West
