Double Olympic silver medallist David Florence will bid to make it a Games hat-trick on day four of Rio 2016 as Team GB bid to keep the medal streak going.
Florence – a canoe slalom specialist – collected C1 silver at Beijing 2008 before repeating the trick in the C2 with Richard Hounslow on home soil at London 2012.
The freshly-turned 34-year-old’s bid for a third successive Olympic medal has begun extremely well at Rio 2016 after he ranked third in the heats of the C1 with a solitary run needed.
And it is the C1 – he also ranked third n the heats of the C2 with Hounslow with just one run required on day four – which presents itself first for Florence.
He’ll go off in the semi-finals at 5:30pm BST with the ten best ranked of 14 progressing to the final, which is scheduled to start at 7:16pm.
Team GB will have five other chances to make reaching the medal podium a regular occurrence after four medals from the first three days.
Tonia Couch and Lois Toulson go in diving’s women’s 10m synchro on an action-packed afternoon which also sees the women’s team final in artistic gymnastics.
Ellie Downie, Becky Downie, Ruby Harrold, Amy Tinkler and Claudia Fragapane will all be hoping to reach the podium after the agony of the men on day three.
Siobhan-Marie O’Connor (pictured above) will bid to get Team GB back on the podium in the pool after qualifying for the 200m individual medley final as the quickest.
Alice Schlesinger will bid for Team GB’s first judo medal in the 63kg category. Team GB’s eventers suffered a setback in the cross-country element on day three but will aim to go out on a high in the jumping.
Things are starting to get interesting on the Lagoa with semi-finals for Team GB in the men’s pair, double sculls and lightweight four and a quarter-final in the single sculls for Alan Campbell.
Katherine Grainger and Victoria Thornley take to the lake in the women’s double sculls semi-final while Katherine Copeland and Charlotte Taylor seek redemption in the lightweight double sculls repechage.
The second day of sailing at the Marina da Gloria sees Giles Scott – heir apparent to Ben Ainslie’s throne in the Finn – in action while familiar faces return.
Nick Thompson, Alison Young, Bryony Shaw and Nick Dempsey all race again with the latter aiming to build on his two race wins and a second on the opening day of the regatta.
Noami Folkard fires for success in the women’s individual event with the round of 32 and 16 scheduled, Joe Cordina is the sole Team GB boxer to fight, the men’s hockey side face Brazil while the men’s rugby sevens outfit open up against Kenya then Japan.
And Team GB flagbearer Andy Murray and teammate Johanna Konta are second up on their respective courts in the men’s and women’s singles respectively.
