England’s Young Lionesses earn their place in World Cup

  • +1

After slipping to a 3-4 defeat against Germany on Friday in the European Championship semi final, the England U17s faced Norway today in the 3rd place play off match.  With the top three qualifying for the World Cup in Jordan in September it was a must win game.

The game started well for England with Niamh Charles scoring in just 8 minutes, but Sophie Haug took full advantage of a poor back pass to score an easy equaliser after half-time.

This England side have spirit though, and Niamh Charles made it five goals in five games turning a pass from Hannah Cain into the net and earning her team a place in the World Cup.

To add a little icing to the cake Alessia Russo has been named joint top scorer [with Lorena Navarro of Spain] at the tournament with 5 goals scored in the tournament phase and 9 in qualifying!

We now await the 30 May when the drawer will take place.

Well done young Lionesses!
