Notts came away form Solihull Moors with a hard earned point against Birmingham City. The home side seeing a late penalty superbly saved by County keeper Carly Telford.

Notts started on the front foot, winning an early corner, Alex Greenwood eventually volleying the loose ball wide. Ellen White and Dunia Susi both had efforts on target well saved by Becky Spencer in the home goal.

The first half struggled to flow with both sides committing a number of fouls as each midfield tried to get on top.

As the first period passed the halfway mark, Rachel Williams brought the ball down, beating two challenges before racing past Kerys Harrop, the defender tripping her on her way through. Despite the striker looking to be bearing down on goal, the referee only cautioned the centre back. Danielle Buet and Alex Greenwood stood over the free kick 20 yards out, Greenwood striking the set piece to Spencer’s bottom right, the keeper making a good save to keep it out.

Despite both teams efforts, neither team could carve out another opportunity and the half ended 0-0.

It was the home side who came out quickest in the second half, Melissa Lawley causing problems in the channels with the County defence doing well to block the striker’s crosses and prevent any openings for the home side.

On the hour mark the Lady Pies ventured forward, Ellen White playing a ball in behind the Birmingham centre backs for an onrushing Susi, but Spencer was out quickly to clear.

Coral Haines broke into the right hand side of the County box, getting goal side of Amy Turner, but the striker drove her shot over the bar.

With just ten minutes to go the home side had the chance to take all three points.

Fern Whelan and Remi Allen went up for a cross, the referee deeming Whelan to have pushed the midfielder and pointed to the spot. Allen stepped up to take the kick herself, driving the ball high to her right but only to see Telford spring to her left and make an outstanding two handed save to deflect the ball clear, Laura Bassett following up to clear first.

The away side had the last chance of the game, Fiona O’Sullivan’s cross was dropped by Spencer but the Birmingham defence reacted first to clear from two yards out.

Neither team could create a winning opportunity in the three minutes added time and the game finished all square.
