Surrey (women) vs Essex (women) – league one, match 52 – at the County Ground, Beckenham (Kent) on Wednesday 10 September 2025
Surrey women came close to booking their semi-final place, until rain arrived with five overs remaining and no further play was possible. Thought to be in a ‘commanding position’ but denied by adverse weather, Surrey women posted a mammoth score before play was called-off. Earlier, commentators speculated whether Essex seamer Sophie Munro was injured as she left the field mid-over, following consultation between Umpires and Essex skipper Grace Scrivens. Surrey womens’ key batting partnership ended shy of twenty-eight overs, between Alice Davidson-Richards -pictured 107(88) and Emma Jones 141(117) who scored her second ‘List A’ century – one scored in each competition ‘tier.’ For background, previously Emma Jones scored 147*not out [(from 101 balls) in match 9] for Glamorgan, who became league-two finalists. On the day, Essex women did not bat, so there was no result. Commentators were Mark Church (BBC London, 5Live Sports Xtra2) & Cam Ponsonby (Sports journalist) with Kirstie White (former Surrey & South-East Stars women) and Georgie Heath (Women’s cricket chat on social media.) Weather: overcast with rain.
