Middlesex vs Gloucester (women) – match 16, L2 – At Radlett, Brunton Memorial Ground (Herts) on Sunday 22 June 2025 (10h30)
An entertaining match dominated by Middlesex women batters Finty Trussler and Issy Routledge who rewrote the record book. Before the match, players held a minute’s silence to mark respect for the passing of David ’Syd’ Lawrence MBE (1964-2025) Glos cricketer who took 515 wickets; and played for England between 1988-92. Finty Trussler -pictured [90 runs (from 59 balls)] chalked-up the highest score by a Middx batter at ‘t20.’ Her partnership with Issy Routledge [80*not out(from 58 balls)] set a new second-wicket partnership, and Issy Routledge saw the innings through to become the second-highest total score made by Middx women against any fellow ‘A-list’ side. The record-breaking pair were interviewed post-match, by Sonia Twigg – please see below. Both sides provided entertainment with a handful of lost balls that Umpires replaced. Turning to Glos women, BBC cricket broadcaster Melissa Story took centre-stage with top-score, having had a lucky ‘run-out’ reprieve after diving home horizontally: albeit with snapped leg-straps. Resuming with conventional ‘hard’ batting-pads, Melissa Story was ‘disappointed’ to be ‘out’ just short of ‘fifty.’ Commentators were Kevin Hand (Sports Journalist) with Sonia Twigg (Sports reporter, The Independent.)
