Birmingham Bears (women) vs Hampshire Hawks (match 23, league one – ‘stand-alone’ fixture) Sunday 15 June at Edgbaston Stadium

Bears chalked-up their third win from three games played-to-date. Match-winning opening partnership between Meg Austin [51 runs(from 38 balls)] and Davina Perrin 30(22) came from their first six overs of power-play. Partnered by Meg Austin (misreported elsewhere as ‘Perrin’ who did not bat with Kalis) Dutch international Sterre Kalis added forty-two runs. Sterre Kalis added twenty runs when partnered by Nat Wraith, whose cameo innings added another forty-two when partnered by Issy Wong. Hawks best bowler was seamer Daisy Gibb (3/25) who took three wickets in four balls – please see video clip below. By comparison, Hawks main partnership between Abi Norgrove and Mary Taylor added fifty, albeit lower down the order. By the time the Taylor Twins (Mary and Millie) got to play against each other for two just balls, Hawks tail-enders needed to score another fifty runs at more than ten runs-per-over from four overs that remained. Post-match, top-scorer Meg Austin reviewed on-screen highlights of her innings with commentators Adam Bridge and guest player Chloe Brewer. Meg Austin said that when batting with Davina Perrin, she had to be ‘ready to run.’ Chloe Brewer revealed that (readiness) was known by Bears women as ‘green-light’ running.
